Corporate Services Transformation: Department for Education and Skills (DfES)

Education has been, and continues to be, at the heart of the government’s agenda and as a result has been challenged to deliver ever better outcomes and at the same time to demonstrate greater value for money.

In 2006 the department brought together many of its corporate directorates into a single corporate services directorate (CSD), and appointed a director general to lead and transform the new directorate.  CSD has brought together Strategy, Reform, HR, Finance, Procurement, Facilities Management, IT and Analytical Services.

Working with the directorate’s leadership, CSD’s role and key design principles were agreed along with a high level case for change.  The next phase of work has been to build a clear vision for the directorate, to develop a new operating model that will support the department in achieving its strategic goals, and to build the business case for change.

Counterpoint is supporting the Director General and Programme Director in shaping the approach and in working with the CSD leadership to deliver the vision, operating model and business case.  Our team comprises three senior individuals, each with extensive knowledge of transformation in the private and public sectors.
